I have had the privilege of interviewing many new college graduates over the years. The excitement and anxiety of landing that 1st job can be very overwhelming. I would love to provide (3) tips that can go a long way in helping you land that dream job:
- Practice communicating your past related experiences to the position that you’re pursuing. Many candidates have lost out on great opportunities by not being able to correlate past experiences to the job requirements.
- It’s a great idea to leverage social media and reach out to classmates and alumni groups to get an understanding of the type of interview process you will be undergoing at a given company. Knowledge of the company hiring process is valuable information to leverage in your closing questions for the interviewer. The best questions you can ask is for clarification on the next steps in the hiring process and timeframe.
- Focus on making the interviewer job easy by answering the questions and not spending a lot of time on irrelevant information. Be confident and inviting with your information!
These are just (3) important tips that can serve you well as you pursue that dream job! I want to leave you with another piece of free advice. It’s a big plus if you have a champion within the company that will be open to speaking to the hiring manager on your behalf. An internal character witness goes a long way in the hiring decision process!
